Permabudhi Makassar Encourages Environmentally Friendly Movement Through Eco Youth Class at Golden Gate School Makassar

Makassar, 21 November 2025 — Permabudhi Makassar continues to strengthen its commitment to environmental education through the implementation of the Eco Youth Class, an Environmental Awareness Program held at Golden Gate School Makassar.

This activity serves as a shared learning space for students to understand global environmental issues while fostering early awareness of the importance of sustainability. The program is a collaboration between Permabudhi Makassar and Golden Gate School as an effort to build a young generation that is sensitive and responsible for the future of the planet.

During the event, Permabudhi invited Dra. Jo Kumala Dewi, M.Sc., Expert Staff to the Minister of Environment, as the keynote speaker. Her presence provided strategic perspectives on the environmental challenges currently faced by Indonesia and the world, especially regarding climate change.

She emphasized that students must understand global issues such as climate change, which causes seasonal uncertainties, as well as the threat of global warming to human life.

She stressed that although many Golden Gate students dream of pursuing further education abroad, contributing to Indonesia remains an important calling. Mrs. Jo, as she is warmly known, encouraged all participants to see themselves as agents of change who can start taking action through small, environmentally friendly habits in their daily lives.

“Your dreams may take you abroad, but your service remains rooted in the land where you come from,” she said.

Golden Gate School Principal, Muhammad Richsan Yamin, S.Pd., M.Sc., also shared his views on the urgency of climate change for the younger generation. He stated that climate change not only affects the environment but also impacts global economic stability.

According to him, the world has now entered the global boiling phase, where the rise in Earth’s temperature poses a real threat to life.

During the discussion session, several students shared their research experiences related to environmental issues. This shows that caring for the planet is not just theoretical but has already become real practice within their learning environment.

The Chairperson of Permabudhi Makassar, Suzanna S.E., M.Pd., added that every human action inevitably affects the environment. She emphasized the importance of adopting a lifestyle that consistently considers environmentally friendly principles.

On this occasion, Suzanna also explained the “Ego to Eco” movement initiated by Permabudhi—a sustainability awareness movement starting from simple steps such as waste management and cultivating the habit of finishing meals without leftovers.

As a form of the school’s commitment to sustainability, the event also included the appointment of the Zero Food Waste Ambassadors. This initiative aims to encourage students to be more responsible in their food consumption while reducing waste. The selection of ambassadors is part of the collaboration between Permabudhi and the school in strengthening environmental education ecosystems at the student level.

The Eco Youth Class concluded with a reflection session showing the students’ remarkable enthusiasm. Through the collaboration of Permabudhi, expert speakers, and a progressive school environment, the activity is expected to be a starting point for expanding environmental awareness movements among students.

The Eco Youth Class is proof that environmental education must begin early and be carried out collaboratively to protect the future of our planet.
